The Goodness Pledge

To become the change I wish to see in the world,
Choosing what is good and right,
To treat others the way I want to be treated, and
Admit to myself and others when I fail to do so,
To serve others, not self,
To be honest with myself, examining my motives,
To lead by example, making Goodness a way of life, and
To dedicate my life to Goodness.

MAKE IT REAL

REFLECTIVE QUESTION OF THE MONTH

Who at your school is being bullied? No doubt, they are feeling alone and need a caring person like you to reach out to them. Be a difference maker in someone’s life, turning the tide by reminding those suffering that they are not alone. Also, encourage and empower your friends to do the same. This will create a ripple effect of empowerment—as you empower your peers, they go out and empower others too. This Goodness will become contagious!

The more kind words we hear, the more we’ll want to speak with kindness too. The more we see people practicing the Golden Rule, the more naturally we’ll treat others as we’d like to be treated. Over time, the behaviors we see in those around us become those we adopt ourselves. Soon, those behaviors become automatic.

The "Making Goodness Fashionable" Toolbox

Good leadership begins with you—if you want to make a change, then you must be the change. We can do this by Making Goodness Fashionable in a world that seems to celebrate conflict.

  1. Be honest in every area of life.
  2. Keep your actions in line with your ethical code.
  3. Do not let anyone rob you of your joy.
  4. Respect another’s point of view, realizing that you can learn from anyone.
  5. Believe that you can overcome any obstacle that you may face—and never give up.
  6. Be generous by giving credit and praise to others.
  7. Treat people well, no matter how they treat you.
  8. Show compassion.
  9. Be accountable, asking your friends to speak the truth to you in love.
  10. Keep your word.
  11. Be encouraging.
  12. Confront your struggles head on—the only way out of the pain is walking through it.
  13. Be humble.
  14. Love unconditionally.
  15. Forgive freely, and aim to live unoffended.

Choose a Goodness tool every week to focus on developing in your life. This could change any bad habits that you might have by growing character qualities of good leadership. How can the Goodness tools become ingrained in every area of your leadership? Which Goodness tool do you choose this week?
